Day 2 - Grand Coulee Dam

Our lunch stop, according to the cue sheet, which are laminated sheets with directions, mileage, climbs, and stop information, was supposed to be at mile 80. We got to mile 80 and there was no sign of Steamboat Rock State Park or lunch. With the additional miles from the morning and some miscalculation on the cue sheet, the park and lunch appeared at mile 90. The picture at the very bottom shows Susan's lunch van and trailer at the state park. Lunch was great. Hot dogs, three kinds of salads, chocolate cake, chips, pickles, chips (which blew away in the wind much to the delight of the seagulls who lurked around the area).

After lunch, we rode another 16 miles into Coulee. The dam is impressive. Our motel, the Columbia River Inn is build along the side of a hill and we've got a nice view of the dam. Apparently there is a laser show each night at 10 pm, but we're not likely to be awake to see it...

Oh, the wind... the other picture below is Banks Lake and those are white caps on the water. Had it been a head wind today, we might still be out there...

  1. Hi Dave and Scott,
I really am enjoying your comments and pictures. Also, it looks like you are off to a good start. Especially with the tail winds. Keep us posted and good luck.
